By the end of January, 2020, four space walks (Extravehicular Activities or EVAs) have been performed to upgrade AMS to upgrade of the original cooling system of the tracker and will enable AMS to continue to operate throughout the lifetime of the ISS. The new system is called the UTTPS which stands for Upgraded Tracker Thermal Pump System. During the four EVAs, a team of two astronauts, one from the Italian Space Agency, Luca Parmitano, and one from NASA, Andrew Morgan, disconnected the old system located in the interior of the AMS detector and connected the UTTPS box containing all the new cooling components.
